If you tuned into our Instagram Story last week you might have seen the cute little DIY we did in our flagship store window. As promised, today on the blog we're spilling the details on how we made a balloon garland so that you can have an easy (and adorable) focal point for your next party, event, or even your own retail store window!
Â
Â
Materials Needed:
Â
Step 1: Inflate the Balloons
Using this balloon pump made this step a breeze for us! To achieve the warm summery color story we wanted, we used only pink, red, white, orange, and yellow balloons and pumped them each to different sizes ranging from small to large. Having a good size variation will add interest to your balloon garland. Tie each balloon as you normally would. The size of the surface area you're trying to cover will determine how many balloons you will need. For reference, our 15 ft. garland required approximately 75 balloons.
Â
Â
Â
Step 2: Create ClustersÂ
Next, you will create clusters out of the inflated balloons. To do this, tie two balloon ends together. Repeat this step with another pair of balloons so that you have two pairs of tied balloons.
Â
Â
Then, create a cluster of four balloons by twisting two pairs of two together where they are tied. Be careful not to twist too tight as you are dealing with very delicate balloons!
Â
Â
Continue this step until each single balloon is made into a cluster. You should have several clusters of four balloons once you are finished.Â
Â

Pro tip: for each cluster, we used four different balloon colors - but you could get creative with yours and group colors together to create a more ombré look.
Â
Step 3: Glue the Clusters
It is super important to use a low-temp glue gun for this step since you will be dealing with delicate balloons. Using the preheated glue gun, add a small line of glue to the surface of one balloon from a cluster. Attach another balloon from another cluster to the hot glue creating a larger cluster.
Â
Â
Â
Â
Continue attaching clusters until you have built a long column of balloons. Once each cluster is attached, you should have a balloon garland that is ready to be hung.Â
Â
Â

 Â
Step 4: Hang the Garland
Attach these hooks (perfect for both indoors or outdoors) to your surface along the path that you would like your garland hung. We recommend using a hook for every 2-3 feet of surface area.
Â
 Â
Â
Next, stretch your garland out and attach short (about 1 ft.) piece of balloon string that will connect the garland to each hook you've previously placed. After each section is hung, you should have a bright and beautiful garland as your finished product!
